Linux is a powerfull, multi-user, multipurpose operating system that can be seen as a “competitor” to Windows.  A lot of people have heard more and more about this “new” operating system with the recent rise (and in some cases falls) of stocks on the internet, or by articles in magazines and in web sites, or with the recent Microsoft Anti-Trust Case.

While my view may at times be biased, I’ve worked with Windows for 10 years and Linux for 8, so have a very balanced view of both.  Most of my time is spent working with Windows NT for work, however, my primary server at home is Linux (I mostly use WIndows 98 however since I’m a serious gamer.

You can find information on getting started, different distributions (companites that release full linux packages), applications, and a bit about the path Linux has taken from it’s start in a college dorm room to the multi-million dollar system that it is today.

You will also learn that while Linux is gaining more features and applications on a daily basis, it still may not be right for you.  With a little more information, you can decide if it’s worth the time and effort, or if it may be something that you wait another 2 or 3 generations for.
